Abstract

Bridge employment is defined as working after retirement which is a phase in between working life and full retirement life. This study examines the size and the determinants of bridge employment in Turkey utilizing the aggregate data from the 2010-2022 Statistical Yearbooks of Social Security System and individual-level data from the 2016-2022 Income and Living Conditions Survey. In doing so, I will also refer to the income figures for working and retired population among wage and salary earners. Preliminary analyses show that in 2022, 1 in 5 working age people over the age of 15 was retired, most people receiving pensions are male and 1 in every 4 retirees was working.
