The following points should be taken into consideration to ensure that Social Security Institution (SGK) notifications regarding optional summer internships are processed properly and without resulting in administrative fines.
Students who wish to undertake a voluntary internship are required to apply to the Department Secretariat using the current version of the “Intern Student Information Form.” The information provided on this form, which will be used for SGK notifications, must be complete and accurate. Please contact the Department Secretariat for the current form and related documents. When completing the form, please make sure not to use course codes or English abbreviations and to use the DD/MM/YYYY date format.
The following additional points should also be noted:
- Since there is no internship requirement in the undergraduate program of the METU Department of Economics, internships are undertaken voluntarily.
- Summer internships should be planned for 20 working days. Students who undertake more than one internship must leave at least one working day between two internships.
- Internships undertaken outside the summer period, as well as long-term internships or internships undertaken for special reasons, require the approval of the Department Chair.
- Intern Student Information Forms must be submitted in advance with a future internship start date. Same-day or retroactive SGK notifications, as well as notifications that are not submitted within the legally prescribed period, will result in administrative fines.
- Since SGK notifications are submitted weekly by the Personnel Department (PDB), corrections or cancellations can be made in the system before the legally prescribed deadline (the internship start date). Any cancellation or modification after this deadline must be submitted in writing (by petition).
- Once the SGK employment entry and exit notifications have been issued by the Personnel Department, students can access this information through the “4A Employment Entry-Exit Notification Inquiry” page of SGK via the Turkish e-Government Portal (e-Devlet).
- Under the current regulations, employment undertaken by international students outside compulsory internships is not covered by the work permit exemption. Therefore, international students undertaking voluntary internships are required to obtain a work permit from the relevant Ministry.
- Students who work as Part-Time Students in the University's Departments or Units must leave their part-time positions at least one week before the start date of their internship.
- For students who are in the process of graduation, SGK notifications may be made until the graduation date determined by the Student Affairs Office.
- The University is responsible only for SGK notification and premium payment procedures related to students' internships.
