The Prof. Dr. Fikret Şenses Academic Achievement Award was established by Prof. Dr. Doğan Tırtıroğlu in honor of his former professor, Prof. Dr. Fikret Şenses, Professor Emeritus of the Department of Economics at Middle East Technical University (METU). The award has been presented annually since the 2020–2021 academic year. The regulations governing the award are as follows:
- The award is presented to one student from each of the first, second, third, and fourth years of the undergraduate program in the METU Department of Economics who has achieved the highest Grade Point Average (GPA) based solely on the courses taken during the relevant academic year. At this stage of the evaluation, the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is not taken into consideration.
- If more than one student attains the same highest annual GPA, priority is given to the student who has completed a greater number of ECON-coded courses during the relevant academic year.
- If the tie persists, the credit-weighted average of the student's ECON-coded courses taken during the relevant academic year is used as the next criterion, and the student with the higher average is selected. If a tie still remains, the Cumulative Grade Point Average.
- The recipients of the award are determined by the METU Department of Economics after the final grades for the academic year have been officially confirmed. The names of the award recipients are subsequently announced on the Department's official website.
